Genre Fiction
Many of the yellowbacks written by American authors are examples of the kinds of genre fiction popular in the nineteenth century.
They include autobiographies and memoirs, like these of PT Barnum and Benjamin Franklin, as well as regional fiction, romance novels, and detective fiction.
The autobiographical works follow the general trend of nonfiction, if still sensationalized, yellowbacks, such as these examples. The include travel narratives, guides, and accounts of celebrity life.
